31st Bike Run to Old Buckenham Airfield, on Sunday 12th May 2013
Many thanks indeed to the 250 or so bikers who braved the cool winds and threat of rain to ride their bikes in support of our Spring Fun Run on Sunday 12th May. Thanks go to the Committee for supporting the event, but particularly to member Andy Hall for liaising with the venue, Old Buckenham Airfield in Norfolk, and who together with Julian Bye sorted and planned the route.
Our hosts looked after us all extremely well with a rock band to greet us on arrival, together with some delicious hot dogs, burgers and beer, and the rain held off until most of us were well on our way home. We at the club hope everybody enjoyed the day, and wanted to let you all know that in recognition of the encouraging level of support for the run, that we are hoping to put on a second run this year on Sunday 1 September.
Thanks also to all the volunteers who helped us with bike registration at Washbrook, to Suffolk Advanced Motorcyclists whose members once again gave up their time to marshal the route, to Suffolk RoSPA Advanced Motorcyclist who organised the bike parking at Old Buckenham, and especially to the team at Suffolk County Council who arranged the road closure at the top of Washbrook Hill at no cost to the Club.
As a result of all your support we raised just over £1100 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance. Each helicopter and medical team costs over £1 million a year to run, all of which comes from charitable donations, so we were delighted to be able to help keep them in the air and saving lives.
